Executive Bios

J. Peter Kleifgen
Chairman / CEO

Pete Kleifgen serves as chairman and CEO of RMI, where he sets the company’s strategic direction. Prior to joining RMI, Pete was president and CEO of StatesRail, a short line railroad holding company, which was sold to RailAmerica, Inc. While at StatesRail, he built one of the most highly respected management teams in the short line industry.

Before forming StatesRail, Pete had executive and/or operating responsibility for a variety of businesses controlled by the Murchison family of Dallas.  One of those positions was as president and chief executive officer of a short line railroad holding company, TNW Corporation.  During this period, he served as a director of Kirby Corporation (NYSE: KEX), the largest inland tank barge carrier in the United States. Pete’s experience with Kirby's acquisition program has been an important influence in the development of other business concepts.

He is a graduate of the University of Houston and attended postgraduate studies at Southern Methodist University and University of Pennsylvania.

James A. Day
Senior Vice President and CFO

Jim Day is responsible for all aspects of financial and administrative management, as well as assisting with the strategic growth of the company.

Prior to joining RMI in 1988, Jim was the controller & CFO of Goer Manufacturing Company, Inc., in Charleston, South Carolina. Prior to Goer, Jim was with the Trailer Train Company, now known as TTX Company, where he advanced to the position of Controller and CFO of the Hamburg Division.  While at Trailer Train, Jim also held the positions of supervisor of AAR billing, accounting manager, manager of quality control / switching, culminating in his appointment as controller in 1978.

Jim is a graduate of the University of South Carolina, School of Business with a degree in Business Administration. 

Bill Hoskins
Senior Vice President Operations

Bill Hoskins is responsible for the operations department of RMI, which includes customer support services and production control.  Previously at RMI, he served as project manager for the Next Generation Car Hire Payable System.  Since joining RMI in 2000, he has been involved in the areas of car hire receivable and car hire payable development managing various projects.

Bill also served as a consultant to RMI in 1979 and 1993.  He was a partner of MD Systems, Inc. from 1981 to 1993 with responsibility for product development.  Between 1994 and 2000 he was founder and president of Direct 1 Medical, Inc., which provided back office and EMR systems to medical offices in the southeast.  In 2000, Direct 1 Medical, Inc. was acquired by WebMD, a leading provider of healthcare services.

Bill is a graduate of Georgia State University. 

Erv Bluemner
Senior Vice President, Product Strategy, Research & Development

Erv Bluemner joined RMI in December 2008 and is responsible for the product strategy, research and development across all RMI product lines. 

Erv comes to RMI most recently from RedPrairie, Inc., a leading US supply chain solution provider, where he was the VP of Transportation Product Strategy and Development. His experience there includes the introduction of a number of innovative transportation solutions, including real-time continuous transportation optimization for multi-modal planning and sophisticated cost analytic tools. He was instrumental in expanding RedPrairie’s multi-modal transportation market internationally. Prior to RedPrairie, Erv held senior executive positions in companies including Frontier Technologies, GE Medical, and Johnson Controls.

He holds both a BS in Mathematics and an MS in Digital Systems from the University of Wisconsin.

Paul Pascutti
Vice President Sales

Paul Pascutti is responsible for positioning RMI and its products and services in his role as vice president of international sales.  Prior to this role, Paul held a number of management positions with RMI.  Most recently, he was VP of Strategic Product Development, responsible for identifying opportunities to develop new products and services for the company.  He also headed up RMI’s marketing and sales efforts for nine years, during which time RMI experienced an annual revenue growth rate averaging twenty percent. His early years at RMI were spent in application development, customer support, and sales.

Prior to joining RMI, Paul was an application developer and systems analyst in the medical practice management field.

He is a graduate of the Georgia Institute of Technology with a degree in Industrial Management.

Kirk A. Knauff
Senior Vice President, Corporate Marketing and Services

Kirk Knauff leads the Corporate Marketing and Services teams at RMI.  In this role he is responsible for RMI’s alliances, branding, communications, consulting, implementations and project management.

Kirk held a number of positions within RMI prior to leading the marketing and service segments of the business. Most recently, he was VP of Sales and Services where he was responsible for new sales and service deployment.

Prior to joining RMI, Kirk served in primarily commercial roles at a railcar leasing company and a Class I railroad. He also owned and operated a railroad consulting business.

Kirk received an undergraduate degree from Florida State University and an MS in Marketing from Webster University. He has performed additional postgraduate work at Harvard Business School. 

David Booker
Vice President Value Delivery

David Booker is responsible for Value Delivery at RMI, focusing on optimizing service to our core RailConnect customers.

Previously at RMI, David led the group responsible for the design and installation of RMI’s RailConnect transportation and revenue systems. Since 1992, his team has installed systems on more than 300 short line and regional rail operations throughout North America. In addition to system installation, David also previously headed up the customer support group with responsibility for end user system design, quality assurance testing, documentation, and telephone support. David originally joined RMI in 1979 as manager of the company’s fleet of investor-owned railcars. 

Before joining RMI, David was with Itel Rail as a manager of five large short line boxcar fleets. He also has experience working with regional rail operations and has been responsible for car hire, equipment leasing, and all agency functions. In addition, David was instrumental in several line acquisitions and has managed railroad division operations. 
David is a graduate of the University of Florida with a degree in Industrial Technology.

Neil Linton
Vice President – Software Development

Neil Linton serves as Vice President, RailConnect for RMI and is responsible for the development and deployment of Railconnect’s integrated suite of application services.  Neil  joined RMI in 1991.

Prior to that, Mr. Linton was an independent consultant and analyst/programmer for 15 years, helping companies such as Coca-Cola, RJR Nabisco, and Castrol Oil.

Mr. Linton is originally from South Africa and attended the University of Witwatersrand.

Martin Paget
Vice President, RailDOCS

Martin Paget leads the RailDOCS line of business at RMI, focusing on product strategy, innovation, customer relationships, and growth. Martin joined RMI in August 2010, bringing over 25 years of experience serving railroad markets throughout the world, with the last 19 years focused in North America.

Prior to joining RMI, Martin was most recently Assistant Vice President, Engineering at Xorail, a wholly owned subsidiary of the Wabtec Corporation, which specializes in signal engineering and railroad design services.   He was responsible for advising and assisting freight railroads and commuter/transit agencies throughout the US on a wide variety of complex Positive Train Control, highway grade crossing, system engineering, and configuration management projects.

Martin previously held the post of Technical Director with Safetran Systems (now Invensys Rail), as well as a variety of managerial and technical roles in R&D and business development. 

He is a graduate of Portsmouth Polytechnic, in the United Kingdom, with a BS degree in Computer Science.
